Potsdam, NY – Pushing undefeated Union College to the brink of defeat, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team fell just short Friday afternoon as they lost 1-0 at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights, now 2-7-0, will be right back on the field tomorrow as they host the Rensselaer Engineers at 2:00 pm at Hantz Turf Field, while Union improves to 9-0-1 and will travel to take on St. Lawrence tomorrow afternoon.

The first half was tightly contested, with each team having multiple chances to score early in the game. Trevor Blackwell (Pittsford, NY) headed a ball out of the box in the 10th minute to stop a scoring chance for the Dutchmen. Eric Herberger (East Aurora, NY) had the best chance for Clarkson in the half, shooting high on a ball that slipped through traffic in the box.

Union got on the board early in the second half, as Nick Vozzella crossed the ball into the box from the right side and Dean Constant chipped it into the net from point blank range to give the Dutchmen the 1-0 lead.

After falling behind, the Golden Knights increased the pressure and created opportunities around the net. With about ten minutes to play, Clarkson's front line kept the ball in the box for an extended period of time but could not get a shot off through the traffic in front of the net. Late pressure came from a pair of corner kicks for the Knights, but the Union defense held on for the win.

"I think the boys played exceptionally well," said head coach Nick Hillary. "Fantastic performance from the back, hard work from the mid-field, the forward line worked relentlessly, and that's what we need. The boys really showed that they have the fight and the determination to play with anyone in this league."

Union edged the Knights in shots 13-7 and King stopped two balls for Clarkson on the afternoon.
