Six different players scored goals for the Green and Gold and all three Golden Knight goaltenders played to combine for the shutout as the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team looked strong in a dominating 6-0 victory over the Whitby Wolves in exhibition action at Cheel Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson officially opens the 2011-12 campaign at the University of Vermont on Friday, September 30.

The Knights scored two goals in each period while outshooting Whitby 49-12. Just 3:04 into the first period, freshman Christine Lambert (Thetford Mines, QUE), the lone rookie forward on the Clarkson roster, started the scoring, redirecting a shot from the point by senior defenseman Katelyn Ptolemy (Dinsmore, SASK). Freshman Taylor Gedig (Kelowna, BC) also assisted. Sophomore Vanessa Gagnon (St. Constant, QUE) made it 2-0 off an assist by junior Danielle Skirrow (Trenton, ONT) at 13:36.

Sophomore Brittany Styner (Calgary, ALB) scored shorthanded just seventy seconds into the second period with classmate Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, ONT) and junior defenseman Hailey Wood (Lethbridge, ALB) assisting.  Last year’s Clarkson Rookie of the Year, sophomore Carly Mercer (Exeter, ONT) made it 4-0 at 6:49 with Wood and freshman defenseman Jennifer Shields (Ingersoll, ONT) assisting.

Rattray and senior Danielle Boudreau (Whitby, ONT) closed out the scoring with third-period goals.

Sophomore Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) started in the Clarkson goal and made 5 first-period stops. Freshman Jenna Boss (Little Canada, MN) turned aside all four shots she faced in the second stanza, and rookie Emily Horn (Hamilton, ONT) posted three saves over the final 20 minutes as the Knights blanked the Wolves.

Marissa Kozovski made 43 saves for Whitby.

Clarkson was 0-of-2 on the power play and killed off three Whitby man-advantage chances.
