Clarkson University’s Nordic Ski team solidified its position as one of the premier programs in the United States Collegiate Ski Association with another strong performance in the USCSA Nationals, held at Black Mountain, ME last week.
The Golden Knight Men finished third overall, while the Clarkson Women placed third in the 3x5k team relay.
Graduate student Matt Delaney (Lake Placid, NY) capped off a stellar career at Clarkson earning First-Team USCSA All-American honors with a third-place finish combined. He placed third in the sprint competition and gained a second-place showing in the 8.5k freestyle event.
Sophomore Alex Benway (Queensbury, NY) came through with a strong performance in the 15k classic race with a fifth-place showing. Benway earned Second Team USCA All-American accolades with a 10th place showing combined overall.
Freshman Dan Stevens (Glenville, NY) placed right behind Delaney in the sprint race in fourth to gain First-Team USCSA All-American honors in that event. Senior Chris Lamothe (Colchester, VT) placed ninth to gain second-team honors.
Sophomore Andrea Walsh (Underhill Center, VT) led the Clarkson Women, placing ninth overall combined to earn USCSA Second-Team All-American status. Walsh was seventh in the sprints, 13th in the skate race and 10th in the 15k classic.
Clarkson also excelled in the men’s and women’s 3x5k relay event with both teams earning Second-Team All-American status. The Golden Knight Women’s team of Walsh and sophomores Emily Garrant (Marcellus, NY) and Alyssa Dausman (Syracuse, NY) placed third. The men’s team of Stevens, Lamothe and Benway finished fourth.
