Seniors Greg Gibbons, Brian Hoey and Andrew Kott highlighted the Clarkson University Lacrosse team's accolades on the 2009 Liberty League All-Star Team with all three earning first-team recognition.
Senior Tom Ross was named to the second team, while classmate John Weinhold and sophomore Tyler Long gained honorable mention status.
An attackman from Baldwinsville, NY, Gibbons earned conference all-star honors for the fourth straight season, including his third consecutive berth on the first team. He was a 2006 co-Liberty League Rookie of the Year. He scored 50 points for the third time in four seasons, tallying 41 goals and nine assists through 13 games this spring. Gibbons is one of only four players ever at the University to amass 200 points
or more in a career with 142 goals and 64 assists through 57 games. He scored eight goals in a contest, in the Knights’ 12-9 victory over RIT on March 25, to tie the single-game record for the Green and Gold. Gibbons was a two-time Liberty League Performer of the Week this season and was selected as Clarkson University's 2009 Male Athlete of the Year for all sports.
Hoey, a midfielder from Auburn, NY, surpassed 100 career points this season with 55 goals and 60 assists through 57 games. He led the Golden Knights with 15 assists this season, ranking sixth in the conference in that category. He also tallied nine goals and posted 24 points during the regular season. Hoey was a Liberty
League Honorable Mention all-Star in 2008.
Earning his second consecutive first-team honor, having also gained the coaches’ vote in 2008, Kott, a native of Auburn, NY, was a mainstay on Clarkson’s stingy defense. He led Clarkson with 46 groundballs, and also recorded nine caused turnovers. He was named Liberty League Defender of the Week on two occasions this spring.
Clarkson’s second-leading scorer, Adams, NY
native Ross posted 35 goals and 11 assists through the first 13 games at attack. He surpassed 100 career points with ease this season, amassing 89 goals and 35 assists through 50 career games. He ranks third in conference in goals and fourth in conference in points.
Playing a steady role on Clarkson’s midfield, Long, a Liverpool, NY native, ranked third on the team in goals with 14 and was the fifth
leading scorer overall with 17 points.
A native of Queensbury, NY, Weinhold was a dominant force on Clarkson’s defense and ranked third on the team in groundballs (35) and led the
Green and Gold in caused turnovers (10). He was also a Liberty League Honorable Mention selection in 2008.
Clarkson, at 9-4 overall, closed out the regular season tied for second in the Liberty League standings with a 4-2 conference mark. The Golden Knights, the third seed in the league's postseason tournament, plays at #2-seed Skidmore on Friday in the semifinal round.
