Loucks Scores Five in Season-Opening Loss to Potsdam

Potsdam, NY - Junior Kimberly Loucks (Waterloo, NY) produced five goals in the season-opening contest for the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team, but the Golden Knights couldn't overcome a slow start in a 13-9 loss to Potsdam State Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights, 0-1, will not play against until their annual Florida trip when they face Smith College during the school's spring break in mid-March.

Potsdam started the contest with three goals in the first nine minutes, and the Knights did not get on the scoreboard until freshman Saryn Campbell (West Bolton, VT) tallied on a free position shot at 15:44 of the first half. Loucks scored twice in the final seven minutes, but the Knights found themselves trailing by a score of 6-3 at the half.

The second half was a repeat of the first as against Potsdam jumped out with the initial scores of the period, getting a pair of unassisted scores from Ashley Bordignon. Loucks stopped the run with a goal at 20:09, but two more scores had Clarkson down 10-4. In the final 16 minutes, the Knights found their offensive push with five goals, but Potsdam held off the late charge to claim the win.

Loucks scored five goals and had a game-high 11 shots, including eight on goal. Senior Emily Bojarski (Syracuse, NY) added in four points with two goals and two assists. Campbell and Brittnie Carroll (Dexter, NY) each added a goal, and Cammie Hayes (Queensbury, NY) had an assist. Freshman Nikki Corso (Derry, NH) also assisted on a goal for the Knights to go along with her game-highs of 10 groundballs and five caused turnovers.

Potsdam's Ashley Bordignon led all scorers with seven points, coming on five goals and two assists. Molly Lehman-Lewis, Allie Nettles and Joan McCabe each scored two goals.

Clarkson held a small advantage in shots (31-28) and trailed by a single groundball in team stats (33-32). Hannah Walters (Amherst, NH) made 10 saves for the Knights, while Sarah Sweeney made eight stops for Potsdam.
