Walters Makes 23 Saves in Loss to Rochester

March 27, 2009

Rochester, NY - Freshman Hannah Walters (Amherst, NH) made 23 saves, including 16 in the first half, but eventually the Rochester offense was too much to overcome as the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team fell to the Yellowjackets 17-8 in Liberty League action Friday afternoon.

The Golden Knights saw their record even at 3-3 overall after the conference opener while Rochester moved to 4-2. Clarkson will play its final non-league game of the season on Tuesday when it visits Oswego State.

Clarkson started off the first half in good shape as Kimberly Loucks (Waterloo, NY) and Alyssa Breed (Macedon, NY) each scored goals in the first six minutes to give the Knights a 2-0 advantage. However, Rochester rattled off five straight goals in the next 12 minutes to take a 5-2 lead. With each team scoring twice in the next eight minutes, the Knights appeared as if they had stablized the contest with their fifth score at 3:42, a free-position score from Brittnie Carroll (Dexter, NY). Unfortunately, the Yellowjackets scored three times in the final moments, including a goal with just a second left in the half, to take a 10-5 lead into the locker room.

Walters made 16 saves in the first half on the 26 shots on goal by Rochester, but the Yellowjackets stepped up their play and scored five straight goals in the first 17 minutes to put the game out of reach of the Knights as Clarkson's offense couldn't keep the pace of the Yellowjackets. Rochester finished with a 46-21 edge in shots and had a 24-9 advantage in ground balls.

Senior Emily Bojarski (Syracuse, NY) led the Knights with three points, scoring two goals and an assist. Breed and Loucks also scored two goals for Clarkson, while Saryn Campbell (West Bolton, VT) scored one goal, as did Carroll.
