Potsdam, NY - Senior Lindsey Grigg (Watertown, NY) and sophomore Emily Bojarski (Syracuse, NY) collectively produced 10 goals and 15 total points as the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team closed out its home schedule with a 17-12 non-league victory over Utica College Friday afternoon at Clarkson Field.
The Golden Knights improved to 5-9 overall and look to end the season on a high note when the team faces Potsdam State on Sunday. One more win will match the program's record for most victories in a season, set back in 2003. Utica fell to 4-10 on the season.
The two teams exchanged goals through the first 20 minutes of the contest and were tied 5-5, but the Knighs ended the half with a six-goal run over the last 7:17 of the period, including a pair of goals by Grigg over a span of just 24 seconds. From that point, the Knights held at least a three-goal advantage for the remainder of the game.
Clarkson controlled the offensive end with a 41-29 advantage in shots and the defense was equally impressive forcing 19 turnovers to offset Utica's 19-12 advantage in draw controls. Erin Duffy (Liverpool, NY) made 12 shots to lead the Knights, while Jessica Leclerc was successful in stopping 13 shots for the Pioneers.
Bojarski scored a team-high eight points, including five goals and three assists, and Grigg wasn't far behind with seven points on five goals and two assists. Alicia Chace (Cortland, NY) added three goals and six groundballs while Alyssa Breed (Macedon, NY) contributed two goals and an assist. Bojarski's eight points pushed her to 57 on the season, just two shy of the single-season mark set by Mary Rice in 2003. Her five goals gave her 42 on the season, which did surpass Rice's previous program high of 40, also set in 2003.
For Utica, Casey Pelletier was the team's high-scorer with five points, all on goals, and also added six groundballs and eight draw controls. Jill Doherty and Kelly Regan also added two goals each for the Pioneers.
