Skidmore Slides In Five Goals in Win over Knights

September 23, 2006

Potsdam, NY - With two goals in the first half and three more in the second half, Skidmore cruised to a 5-0 victory over the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon at Clarkson Field.

The Golden Knights dropped to 0-7-1 overall and 0-2 in the Liberty League and face off against Elmira next Saturday. Skidmore improved to 8-2 overall and evened their conference slate at 1-1.

The Thoroughbreds took little time to show why they are one of the higher scoring teams in the conference with several solid chances in the opening minutes. Skidmore came through with a goal at 20:34 when Van Haskell sent a centering pass to the foot of Colin Minte who one-touched the ball into the goal for a 1-0 Thoroughbreds advantage. Haskell scored his conference-leading eighth goal of the season 11 minutes later to make the score 2-0 and the Thoroughbreds padded their lead from that point on.

Pete Brownell tallied a goal at 53:43 in the second half when he slotted the ball into the left corner from just outside the goalie box, Alex MacFadyen chipped in a shot from 15 yards out which the goalkeeper couldn't quite get enough of to keep out of the net, and Steve Hazarian scored at 75:02 when Clarkson failed to clear the ball out of the zone.

Jake Densen and John Corridan combined to make one save for the shutout for Skidmore while Jonathon Rushing (Paw Paw, MI) made eight saves for the Golden Knights. The Throughbreds led 15-3 in shots and edged the Knights 8-3 in corner kicks. The two teams combined for 35 fouls and four yellow cards.
