Potsdam, NY - After constant pressure in the second half and overtime, Union finally got a shot past the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team's defense as the Dutchmen came through with a 1-0 win over the Golden Knights in the Liberty League opener Friday afternoon at Clarkson Field.

The Golden Knights dropped to 0-6-1 on the season and 0-1 in the Liberty League and the team will play its last conference home game of the campaign on Saturday when the team hosts Skidmore. Union improved to 6-1 and 1-0 in conference.

In the final 55 minutes, Union enjoyed several solid chances at the Clarkson net, but junior Jonathon Rushing (Paw Paw, MI) was always up to task in stopping seven shots over that time frame. The Golden Knights also made a few runs at scoring the opening goal, but there chances were stymied prior to reaching the goalkeeper's hands.

Finally, just 46 seconds into the second overtime, junior midfielder Tripp Pietrak received a pass from Brendon Keinath and carried the ball up the right side. Rushing had astutely dove on several occasions to stop other Dutchmen scoring chances, but this time Pietrak held back and was able to put the ball past the Clarkson goalkeeper, ending the overtime session.

Rushing finished the game with 10 saves while Rob Kramer needed to make just one stop for Union. The Dutchmen out shot Clarkson 15-5, with 12 shots coming on net for Union and two for the Knights.
