Potsdam, NY - Travis Carey scored two goals in the first 20 minutes and then assisted on another just 10 minutes later as Cortland State used a three-goal first-half to defeat the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team 4-0 Friday afternoon at Clarkson Field.

The Golden Knights dropped to 0-4-1 on the season and look to earn their first win on Saturday when they host RIT. Cortland State won its second straight game and improved to 2-2-2.

Carey scored the first of his two goals less than eight minutes in when he received a pass from near midfield and carried the ball in on the right side to put the Red Dragons up 1-0. He scored his second goal at 18:24 after Clarkson goalkeeper Mike St. Croix (Watertown, NY) came out to make a save on a shot by Cortland's Cody Healey, but the deflection went right to the foot of Carey for the second goal.

Less than 10 minutes later it was Healey who would score on a helper from Carey, who led Healey on the pass beyond the Clarkson defense.

While Cortland would hardly slow down its offense in the second half, St. Croix stood up to the challenge, making some acrobatic saves in net to keep the deficit at 3-0. He would finish with a career-high 11 saves, making seven in the second half. The Red Dragons finally got another shot past St. Croix when once again he made a save, but the rebound went to the foot of Bryan Patterson who squeezed the ball between two Clarkson defenders into the otherwise open net.

Cortland finished with a 16-5 advantage in shots and a 4-2 lead in corner kicks. St. Croix had 11 saves while Kyle Bigney of Cortland made three saves in the shutout.
