A slow start on the road cost the Clarkson University Women’s Lacrosse team on Wednesday night as the Golden Knights lost 16-9 at Utica College.

Clarkson fell behind 7-0 15 minutes into the non-league game against the Pioneers and could not recover despite out scoring Utica 7-5 in the second half. The Pioneers (7-3) built their lead to 11-2 at the half and went on top 12-2 early in the second stanza before the Knights got on a roll by scoring five unanswered goals.

Sophomore Alicia Chace (Cortland, NY) started the Green and Gold rally with 21:49 to play. Goals from sophomore Alexis Miller (Vestal, NY), freshman Emily Bojarski (Syracuse, NY), Chace again, and junior Lindsey Grigg (Watertown, NY) followed to cut the deficit to 12-7 with 12:25 remaining. Utica, however, responded with four of the last six goals to seal the victory.

Bojarski led the Knights offensively with three goals and one assist. Chace chipped in three scores, while freshman Alyssa Breed (Macedon, NY) tallied one goal and two assists.

Utica out shot Clarkson 38-25 and held a 42-30 advantage in groundballs. Senior Lindsay Roberts (Averill Park, NY), who recorded two assists, picked up a team-high eight groundballs. Junior Erin Duffy (Liverpool, NY) made 14 saves.

At 4-9 overall, Clarkson will look to break out of a three-game losing slump when it hosts St. Lawrence University in Liberty League action at Cheel Field on Saturday afternoon, beginning at 12 noon.
