Junior Lindsay Roberts (Averill Park, NY) scored four goals and one assist to lead the Clarkson University Women’s Lacrosse team to its second win of the year, an 11-8 victory at cross-town rival SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday afternoon.
Trailing 6-2 with 13:47 left in the first half, the Golden Knights scored nine of the final 11 goals of the contest to gain their eighth straight win over the Bears. Sophomore Emily Cohen (Bethlehem, NY) and freshman Alicia Chace (Cortland, NY) tallied two goals each for the Green and Gold, while senior Ashley Edson (Lebanon, NH), sophomore Lindsey Grigg (Watertown, NY) and freshman Alexis Miller (Vestal, NY) chipped in one goal apiece for Clarkson.
Potsdam (3-7) jumped out to a 2-0 lead four minutes in before Clarkson tied it up with 20 minutes to play in the first on goals by Chace and Roberts 63 seconds apart. The Bears then rattled off four straight goals to grab the advantage. The Knights began their rally with under 13 minutes to play before intermission with two goals by Roberts and one by Cohen to cut Potsdam’s lead to 6-5 at the break.
Clarkson opened up the second half with four more goals to take control. Miller tied the game 6-6 two minutes into the half and Edson put the Knights on top for the first time with 19:04 to play. Cohen and Roberts closed out the Green and Gold’s seven-goal run for a 9-6 lead with 15:20 left.
The Bears pulled to within one with a pair of goals 24 seconds apart with 11 minutes to go, but late goals by Grigg and Chance, the Liberty League co-Rookie of the Week, sealed the Clarkson win.
Potsdam out shot Clarkson 24-21 and held a decided advantage in ground balls, 36-12. Sophomore Erin Duffy (Liverpool, NY) posted 16 saves, eight in each half, in the Knights’ goal.
Clarkson closes out the season on Saturday when they host Elmira at Clarkson Field in a 2:00 p.m. game.
