Potsdam, NY - Junior Lindsay Roberts (Averill Park, NY) scored five times for the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team, but the Golden Knights came up short in their rally against Utica College, dropping an 11-9 decision to the Pioneers Wednesday afternoon at Potsdam State's artificial turf field.
The Golden Knights fell to 0-6 overall and return to conference play this weekend when they host Skidmore College and Union College. The Pioneers improved to 2-3.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 7-2 lead late in the first half, but Clarkson cut the advantage to three goals by the end of the first 30 minutes. Clarkson battled back to tie the score twice at 8-8 and 9-9, but two late goals from Utica sent the Knights to their sixth straight defeat.
Lindsey Grigg (Watertown, NY) scored three goals and Rachel Kopels (Queensbury, NY) contributed the other score for the Golden Knights. Abby Unangst (Liverpool, NY) and Lindsay Walker (Syracuse, NY) each earned assists.
For Utica, Liz Strodel scored five goals to lead the Pioneers. Lauren Schreiner and Jen Corigliano each tallied twice while Jen Munisteri and Andrea Olney each scored once. Munisteri and Schreiner also added assists.
Erin Duffy (Liverpool, NY) made seven saves for Clarkson while Megan Pawlowski stopped 16 shots for the Pioneers.
