Potsdam, NY - With his fourth goal of the season, junior
Justin Crowley (Central Square, NY) helped continue the hot streak of the
Clarkson University Men's Soccer team as the
Golden Knights came through with a
1-1 tie against Vassar College Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights, who have lost only once in their past five games, moved to 3-7-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the Liberty League, while Vassar finished the weekend with a record of 3-5-2 and 0-3-2 in conference play.
The game was filled with yellow card cautions as each team picked up three infractions through the contest, but the game finished in close fashion regardless. The Brewers earned the first score of the contest midway through the second half when junior midfielder Kyle Denny scored on a header from 10 yards out. Nate Malinowski sent a long cross to Denny, who was able to send the head shot just under the crossbar for a 1-0 Vassar lead at 26:37.
Thirty-five minutes passed before the Golden Knights netted the equalizer as Justin Crowley scored his team-high fourth goal of the season. Freshman
Kevin Martens (Salt Point, NY) sent a quick pass from 15 yards out over to Crowley who swiftly settled the ball and shot the ball with his opposite foot just inside the right post at 62:31.
Two scoreless overtime periods led to each team earning a single point in the conference standings. Clarkson closed the game with a 9-5 advantage in shots, but trailed 5-1 in corner kick opportunities.
David Hennessey (Wading River, NY) made two saves for the Golden Knights and Jason Cetel stopped three shots for the Brewers.
