VITALLO SCORES 20 BUT KNIGHTS FALL TO BREWERS

January 22, 2005

Russ Vitallo
Poughkeepsie, NY - For the fourth time in five games, junior forward Russ Vitallo (Dracut, MA) led the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team in scoring, but unfortunately another trend continued as the Knights dropped their fifth straight game, this time to Liberty League conference foe Vassar, 67-59.

The Golden Knights moved to 4-11 on the season and 0-4 in conference play. Clarkson looks to get on the winning track on Tuesday when they host arch-rival St. Lawrence University.

Vitallo scored 20 points on 7-for-14 shooting from the floor. He also added two rebounds and two blocks for the Golden Knights. Sophomore forward Jon Youngmann (Corinth, NY) recorded his fourth double-double of the season, adding 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Knights.

Clarkson led by two at the half and had a three-point advantage at the 15:30 mark in the second half, 33-30, but a 16-2 run by Vassar over the next five minutes put the Brewers up by double digits and they held the lead for the remainder of the game.

Lawrence Avitabile led Vassar with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
