NOLAN SCORES SIXTH TO GIVE KNIGHTS TIE VERSUS PROVIDENCE

Providence, RI - Sophomore Jill Nolan (Labrador, NF) scored her team-high sixth goal of the season with under seven minutes remaining in the third period to help the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team come back from a two-goal deficit and salvage a 3-3 tie against Providence College Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights moved to 2-2-3 overall and face Northeastern at 2:00 pm Saturday in Boston, MA. Providence went to 3-2-2.

The Friars opened the scoring just 24 seconds into the first frame and then added a power play goal with under three minutes remaining in the first period to jump out to a 2-0 lead. The Golden Knights actually carried the play in the first 20 minutes, outshooting the Friars 10-6.

Clarkson came back with two scores in under two minutes in the first half of the second period with freshmen Katie Morrison (Ridgefield, CT) and Brooke Beazer (Kingston, ONT) each tallying goals. Morrison scored an even-strength goal, her second of the season, at 4:33 to cut the deficit to one and Beazer added a power-play marker, also her second score of the year, at the 6:22 mark to tie the game up 2-2. Sophomore Emma Madigan (Mississauga, ONT) was given the assist on both goals, her second and third of the season.

Providence took a 3-2 lead on a power play goal from Kelli Doolin at 11:56 of the period. Providence out shot Clarkson 14-6 in the middle frame.

Nolan tied the game up 3-3 on a pass from freshman Amanda Dittmer (Chatham, ONT) at the 13:24 mark and the two teams were unable to break the deadlock in the final 11 minutes.

Sophomore Kira McDonald (Pickering, ONT) started in goal for Clarkson, making four saves in the first 17 minutes before being replaced by classmate Stephanie Hansen (Calgary, ALB). Hansen finished the game in goal and made 20 saves in 47 minutes, 49 seconds. Amy Thomas stopped 23 shots in 65 minutes for the Friars.

Clarkson was 1-for-10 on the power play and Providence went 2-for-11 with a man-advantage. The two teams were also virtually even in penalty minutes (Clarkson 24-Providence 22) and shots (Clarkson 26-Providence 27).
