WESNER SCORES 17 IN LOSS TO PLATTSBURGH STATE

Plattsburgh, NY – Sophomore Sarah Wesner (Sidney, NY) tied her career-high with 17 points and grabbed five rebounds, but the Clarkson University Women’s Basketball team dropped a 69-46 decision to Plattsburgh State on Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights fell to 0-3 overall while Plattsburgh State remained perfect at 3-0. Clarkson returns to action next Tuesday when they face off against cross-town rival Potsdam State.

Clarkson and the Cardinals played a fairly even first half for the first 17 minutes as the Golden Knights trailed 26-23 with just over three minutes remaining. However, Plattsburgh State ended the half on a 10-0 run to take a double-digit advantage after 20 minutes.

Plattsburgh State continued their run in the opening minutes of the second half as they extended their lead to 49-28 at the 12:53 mark. After falling behind by as many as 25, the Golden Knights closed the gap to 19, but could not make a larger dent into the Cardinals’ lead.

Senior guard Linda Fernandez (Kennebunkport, ME) scored 10 points, nine of which came in the first half, and added a team-high eight rebounds for Clarkson.

Laura Phillips scored 17 points and added 11 rebounds and three steals for Plattsburgh State. Ashley Gela was the only other Cardinals’ player to score in double digits, contributing 15 points.
