October 30, 2004

Potsdam, NY – Despite an advantage in shots, 11-10, the Clarkson University Men’s Soccer team was unable to produce the same as Plattsburgh State, as the Cardinals defeated the Golden Knights 4-0 in a non-league game Saturday afternoon at Clarkson Field.

The Golden Knights finished the season 5-11-1 while Plattsburgh State improved to 14-2-2.

The Cardinals wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as junior Pat Simone scored at the 6:39 mark on a pass from senior Andrew Knoll. Clarkson kept the game close until late in the first half when the Cardinals picked up two more goals in the final seven minutes. Craig Carroll scored at the 38:37 mark from Knoll to make the score 2-0. Russ Mitchinson made the score 3-0 when he produced a header off a corner kick from Carroll.

Mike Figliola added a fourth Plattsburgh goal at the 51:38 mark in the second half when he scored off the left post. David Windenmaier was awarded the assist.

Clarkson goaltender David Hennessey (Wading River, NY) made one save while Zach Manning stopped seven shots for the shutout. While Clarkson held a narrow 11-10 advantage in shots and had seven shots on goal compared to Plattsburgh’s five, the Cardinals were ahead in corner kicks, 5-1.
