CLARKSON NAMES JIM KANE as NEW HEAD COACH
Clarkson University has announced the appointment of Jim Kane as the Golden Knights head baseball coach. A native of Canajdnarie, New York, Kane has extensive baseball coaching experience having served as an assistant coach at Brockport State since 1995.
Kane inherits a Clarkson baseball program that is coming off its most successful season ever. This past spring the Golden Knights broke the school record for wins in a season by compiling a 25-10 record and won the ECAC Upstate New York Championship, which was held at Brockport State.
"Jim is very knowledgeable about the game of baseball and I am certain he will continue to lead Clarkson's program in the right direction," said Clarkson Athletic Chairman Geoff Brown. "I am very pleased to have Jim joining our staff and providing critical leadership to our student-athletes."
As the Golden Eagles' top assistant coach, Kane helped to guide Brockport back into a national powerhouse during the late 1990s and into 2000. This past spring, Brockport posted a 23-13-1 record and earned the number one seed in the ECAC Upstate New York Championships. Kane graduated from Brockport in 1995 with a bachelor degree in Sport Management. In 1997, he earned a second bachelor degree in Physical Education and gained his master's degree in Athletic Administration this past May.
"I feel very fortunate to be the next head baseball coach at Clarkson University," said Kane. "I am very excited about this opportunity and the chance to continue the success Clarkson experienced last year. We have the majority of the team, which won the ECAC Championship, back. Hopefully, we can continue the success the team experienced this past spring."
A member of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), Kane has acted as a camp instructor at both the Penn State and Brockport baseball camps. He has also served as the women's golf coach at Brockport. At Clarkson, he will also serve as the women's tennis coach. Kane replaces Mike Nicholson, who accepted the head coaching position at Seminole Community College in Sanford, Florida.

CLARKSON BASEBALL PLAYERS AWARDED INDIVIDUAL ALL-STAR HONORS
After recently completing the most successful season in Clarkson University baseball history, numerous Golden Knights have been awarded all-star honors. One Knight was honored as an NCAA All-America, two were selected as ECAC Upstate All-Stars, four Clarkson players were named to the Division III New York State Region ABCA/Rawlings All-Star team and the Knights also dominated the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) All-Star squad, placing 10 members on the all-conference team.
A junior pitcher from Oswegatchie, NY, Matt Nolan became the first Clarkson baseball player to gain All-America recognition when he was named to the NCAA Division III second-team national squad. Selected earlier this spring as the UCAA Player of the Year and as a Division III New York State Region ABCA/Rawlings first-team All-Star, Nolan was just one of four New York State region players named to the All-America team, which was announced this past weekend at the Division III College World Series in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. This past Friday, Nolan was also named to the ECAC Upstate NY All-Star team.
A left-hander, Nolan led the Golden Knights and the UCAA in nearly every category. He went 10-1 on the season, losing only in a relief appearance, and led the UCAA in innings (72.3), strikeouts (79), earned run average (1.24), complete games (8) and wins (10). Nolan also held opponents to a .194 batting average. Nolan threw a one-hitter against Skidmore, a two-hitter versus Utica, a three-hitter against Brockport State and Union, and finished the regular season with a four-hitter against Rensselaer.
Senior Willie Gould joined Nolan on the ECAC All-Star team and along with sophomore Tim Barcomb was named a first-team UCAA All-Stars and to the second team of the NYS squad. An outfielder from Saratoga Springs, NY, Gould led the Golden Knights in runs batted in (33), total bases (78), slugging (.661), and tied for the team lead in home runs (5). Gould also broke team records for runs scored (43) and hits (47).
A native of Cadyville, NY, who starred at third base for Clarkson, Barcomb was also named a to the GTE Academic All-America District I first team. Through 33 games, he batted .373 with 10 doubles and 24 runs batted in. He was also was among the team leaders in runs (30), hits (38), total bases (53), and walks (12) while making just 10 errors in 88 chances in the infield.
Sophomore outfielder Brian Demshar, from Carrabasset, ME, was also selected to the UCAA first-team along with gaining third-team NYS honors. Clarkson's leading hitter, Demshar batted at a .406 clip while hitting five home runs for a share of the team lead.
Junior Brooks McMurray, sophomore Matt Draper and freshmen Matt Macaulay and Nate Markell were named to the second-team of the UCAA All-Star squad, while junior Kris Owen was named a UCAA honorable mention selection.
A designated hitter from West Palm Beach, FL, McMurray batted .337 with four doubles, two triples, one home run and 14 RBI. A Massena, NY native, who played first base for the Knights, Draper hit for a .387 average with six doubles, two triples and three home runs. He also scored 26 runs and collected 26 RBI.
Also from Massena, NY, Macaulay and Markell provided Clarkson with two of the top rookies in the UCAA. Playing centerfield, Macaulay was named co-UCAA Rookie of the Year and also gained MVP honors of the ECAC Upstate New York Tournament. He batted for a .364 average with a league-leading 14 doubles, along with two home runs and 22 RBI. Markell started 25 games at shortstop and batted for a .368 average, while posting a .914 fielding percentage.
A native of Penn Yan, NY, Owen started 29 games at second base and posted a .252 batting average and a .941 fielding percentage.
In the 2000 season, the Golden Knights, guided by UCAA Coach of the Year Mike Nicholson, broke the school record for wins in a season by compiling a 25-10 record, bettering the previous high of 19 wins recorded in 1943. Clarkson rattled off 10 straight victories early in the season for a 12-2 mark that was highlighted by the Golden Knights first win over Ithaca since 1976, ending a streak of 40 straight losses against the Bombers. The Golden Knights also were ranked nationally for the first time in school history, entering the national poll as the 22nd-ranked team in the country on May 1, 2000. Clarkson capped off the season with an ECAC Championship, defeating RIT 3-2 in the opening round and then beating Oneonta State 6-3 in the championship game at the tournament held at Brockport State on May 13-14.
CLARKSON BASEBALL ENJOYED BEST SEASON EVER IN 2000
Despite two seasons with a combined 17-53 record, head coach Mike Nicholson had high hopes for this spring, but not even he could have dreamed that the Golden Knights’ regular season would end with a post-season championship and nearly every team and individual record broken.
Led by captains Justin Driggs (Oneonta, NY), Willie Gould (Saratoga Springs), Brad Kenny (West Falls, NY), and Rich Messano (Long Valley, NJ), the Golden Knights broke the school record for wins in a season by compiling a 25-10 record in the spring of 2000, bettering the previous high of 19 wins recorded in 1943. Clarkson rattled off 10 straight victories early in the season for a 12-2 mark that was highlighted by the Golden Knights first win over Ithaca since 1976, ending a streak of 40 straight losses against the Bombers. The pitching staff also got solid performances from juniors Chad Roes (Lowville, NY), who went 4-0, Brad Kenny (West Falls, NY), who won the UCAA Pitcher of the Week award for his three-hitter against Keuka in the Pepsi Tournament, Ben Brown (Wyomissing, PA) and Robert Stoddard (Silver Springs, NY). Sophomores Mark Anderson (Leland, MI) and Chris Tarbox (Tupper Lake, NY) and freshman Adam Fiedler (Niskayuna, NY) each proved to be valuable in relief for the Golden Knights.
Catchers Shaun Bowman (Ogdensburg, NY) and Al Begeal (Deposit, NY) handled the defensive duties behind the plate and also combined for a batting average of over .300.
While the pitching helped Clarkson in tight games, the Golden Knights’ offense, guided by assistant coach Todd Kirkey, provided some exciting games for the fans. Clarkson set team records for batting (.343), runs (280), hits (365), home runs (24), runs batted in (233), and stolen bases (62). Gould led the team in runs batted in (33), total bases (78), slugging (.661), and tied for the lead in home runs (5). Gould also broke team records for runs scored (43) and hits (47). Five hitters placed in the top 10 in the UCAA for hitting, including Demshar, Gould, sophomores Matt Draper (Massena, NY) and Tim Barcomb (Massena, NY) and freshman Nate Markell (Massena, NY). Freshman Matt Macaulay (Massena, NY) also proved to be a valuable player for the Golden Knights, batting .364 with a league-leading 14 doubles. Macaulay was also named the Most Valuable Player of the ECAC Tournament, going 4-for-6 with a home run and three RBI.
Upperclassmen Brooks McMurry (West Palm Beach, FL), Kris Owen (Penn Yan, NY), Dustin Breen (Jericho, VT), and Jason Zeronda (Clifton Park, NY) provided the Knights with leadership and excellent play throughout the season. McMurry batted .337 while Owen was third on the team with three home runs. Zeronda batted .375 in pinch-hitting duties. Breen and freshman Matt Schwind (Hilton, NY) were often used as late-inning defensive replacements. Also adding to the Knights’ fine season were sophomore Doug Smithgall (Rochester, NY) and freshmen Aaron White (Watertown, NY) and Tim Bumpus (Liverpool, NY).

CLARKSON CLAIMS ECAC UPSTATE NY BASEBALL TITLE
The Golden Knights made a memorable showing in their first postseason tournament appearance by winning the ECAC Upstate NY Baseball Championship, held at Brockport State this past weekend.. Clarkson came-from-behind to defeat RIT 3-2 in first round action on Saturday and then knocked-off Oneonta State 6-3 in Sunday's championship game. Freshman Matt Macaulay (Massena, NY) was named Tournament MVP. Macaulay hit a three-run home run in the second inning of the title contest. Clarkson closed out its best season ever with a 25-10 overall record.

CLARKSON’S BARCOMB NAMED GTE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA DISTRICT I FIRST TEAM
Sophomore Tim Barcomb (Cadyville, NY), a member of the Clarkson University baseball team, has been named to the 2000 GTE Academic All-America District I First Team.
A 5-10, 195-pound third baseman for the Golden Knights, Barcomb has attained a 4.0 grade point average in bio-molecular science. Barcomb has also played a key role on the diamond for the Golden Knights, batting .379 this season with 10 doubles and 24 runs batted in. His batting average ranks him eighth in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA), while his 10 doubles place him fourth and his RBI total ranks him 10th in the league.
Barcomb, who has played in 31 of the team’s 33 games this season, is also among the team leaders in runs (29), hits (36), total bases (51), and walks (11) while making just six errors in 76 chances at third base. Besides individual excellence, Barcomb has also helped lead the Golden Knights to a 23-10 overall record and their first ever post-season berth as Clarkson gained admittance to the ECAC Tournament.
The Golden Knights face RIT in the first round at noon on Saturday, May 13, at Brockport State. Voting for the National GTE Academic All-America team will be announced on June 6.

CLARKSON SPLITS DOUBLE DIP WITH RENSSELAER; KNIGHTS GAIN ECAC BID
Potsdam, NY – Matt Nolan (Oswegatchie, NY) threw a four-hitter and struck out seven as the Clarkson University baseball team split a doubleheader with Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) foe Rensselaer, winning the opener 5-3 and dropping the second game 2-0. Nolan picked up his ninth win in nine starts to improve his record to 9-1 overall. Nolan allowed a two-run home run to Kevin Connell in the top of the first inning, but settled down to allow only two more hits over the final six frames.
After Nolan threw away an attempted pick off, the Red Hawks (25-10 overall, 10-2 UCAA) led by the score of 3-0 after two and a half innings. Clarkson came back with a run in the third on a double by freshman Matt Macaulay (Massena, NY) and added another run in the fourth on a double by sophomore Brian Demshar (Carrabasset Valley, ME).
Clarkson piled on three more runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead. Macaulay went 2-for-3 with two RBI, Willie Gould (Saratoga Springs, NY) went 2-for-3, and Nate Markell (Massena, NY) was 2-for-2 for the Golden Knights.
In the second game, sophomore Travis Teeter allowed only two hits in the first inning and shut the Knights (23-10, 7-5) down the rest of the game for a 2-0 shutout. Junior righthander Ben Brown (Wyomissing, PA) nearly matched Teeter, allowing only two runs, one coming in the first on a solo home run from John Venditte and on a sacrifice fly in the sixth from Teeter.
Earlier in the afternoon, the Knights learned that they were awarded an ECAC Upstate New York post-season tournament berth, gaining their first post-season appearance in school history. Clarkson was awarded the No. 2 seed in the tournament and will face No. 3 seed RIT at 12 noon on Saturday, May 13th at Brockport State. The No. 4 seed Oneonta State will face No. 1 Brockport State in a 4:00 p.m. game. The winners on Saturday will advance to the championship game will be played at noon on Sunday. All games will be played at Brockport State.

CLARKSON BASEBALL GAINS DIVISION III NATIONAL RANKING
In the new ABCA Division III Baseball Poll released on Monday, Clarkson University gained its first ever national ranking, jumping into the poll ranked 22nd in the nation. In the last poll released on April 17th, the Golden Knights did not gain any votes for a national ranking, but based on an 8-2 record over the last two weeks and an overall mark of 21-6, Clarkson received 71 votes in the latest poll.
Besides recognition in the national poll, the Golden Knights also moved from sixth in the New York Regional rankings all the way up to the second spot behind perennial baseball power Cortland State. The Golden Knights leaped over Rensselaer, Ithaca, and Brockport State to move to the second spot in the region. Clarkson faces a tough finale for the regular season, playing three consecutive doubleheaders starting this Saturday, May 6 with the University of Rochester. On Sunday, the Golden Knights visit RIT, ranked sixth in the region, in a non-league matchup and then finish the regular season on Monday at home, 2:00 p.m. at Snell Field, against defending UCAA champion Rensselaer with an automatic NCAA Tournament bid at stake.

CLARKSON SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH UNION; NOLAN WINS 8th WITH SHUTOUT
Potsdam, NY – Matt Nolan (Oswegatchie, NY) threw a three-hit shutout to help the Clarkson University baseball team gain a split against Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) foe Union, winning his decision in the second game 9-0 after the Golden Knights dropped the first game of the twinbill 5-3 to the Dutchmen Sunday afternoon at Clarkson’s Snell Field.
The doubleheader split moves the Golden Knights to 21-6 overall and 6-2 in the UCAA, while Union improves to 12-12 overall and 4-4 in the UCAA, In the first game, the Golden Knights held a 3-0 lead for the first four innings before Dutchmen sophomore Ryan Kindl hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning to tie the score 3-3. Union scored two more in the top of the sixth inning, one on a throwing error and the other on an RBI-single from Brian Gould. Gould and Chris Plant each went 2-for-3 for Union. Willie Gould (Saratoga Springs) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored to lead Clarkson.
Sophomores Tim Barcomb (Cadyville, NY) and Brian Demshar (Carrabasset Valley, MA) each went 2-for-3. In the second game, Nolan threw his second consecutive shutout, striking out six while walking two over seven innings. Nolan has pitched 15 consecutive innings without allowing a run and has struck out 19 over his last 14 innings. Demshar went 2-for-2 with a RBI for Clarkson. Matt Draper (Massena, NY), Shaun Bowman (Ogdensburg, NY) and Nate Markell (Massena, NY) each went 2-for-3 with run-scoring hits in the second inning. Jay Warzala struck for two of Union’s three hits in the second game.

CLARKSON SWEEPS HAMILTON IN UCAA DOUBLEHEADER; SET SCHOOL MARK WITH 20th VICTORY
Potsdam, NY – The Clarkson University baseball team extended its winning streak to four games with a doubleheader sweep of Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) foe Hamilton, 7-4 and 12-5 Saturday afternoon at Clarkson’s Snell Field. The two wins helped improve the Golden Knights to 20-5 overall and 5-1 in the UCAA. The 20 victories for Clarkson set a new school mark, bettering the 19 wins recorded by the 1943 Clarkson team.
Ben Brown (Wyomissing, PA) pitched a complete game for the Golden Knights first win, striking out three while allowing 10 hits. Matt Macaulay (Massena, NY) led off the Knights’ half of the first inning with a home run, the first of his collegiate career. Macaulay was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Brooks McMurry (West Palm Beach, FL) went 2-for-2 with a solo home run in the fifth inning, his first of the season. Andy Revell went 3-for-4 for the Continentals (6-19, 2-8) in the first game, while Brian Grady went 2-for-3 and Mike Feuerstein was 2-for-4.
In the second game, Chris Tarbox (Tupper Lake, NY) scattered seven hits and struck out six, including five straight over the second and third innings, for his second win of the season. Al Begeal (Deposit, NY) went 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBI, including a two-run single in the third inning that sparked a six-run rally. Tim Barcomb (Cadyville, NY) was 2-for-3 and Kris Owen (PennYann, NY), Brian Demshar (Carrabasset Valley, ME) and Macaulay each went 2-for-4. Sam Bono took the loss for Hamilton, but went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI.

CLARKSON COMPLETE FOUR-GAME SEASON SWEEP OF ST. LAWRENCE; GOULD BREAKS RUNS SCORED RECORD
Potsdam, NY – The Clarkson University baseball team completed a four-game season sweep of St. Lawrence University Wednesday afternoon as the Golden Knights defeated the Saints 13-5 in a nine-inning non-league game at Clarkson’s Snell Field.
Willie Gould (Saratoga Springs, NY) went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a run batted in. Gould’s run in the bottom of the eighth inning, his 34th of the season, established a Clarkson single-season record for runs scored. The previous record of 33 was held by current teammate Rich Messano (Long Valley, NJ) and former Golden Knight two-sport standout Matt Nachman. Clarkson scored two in each of the first two innings, but the Saints came back with two runs in both the second and third innings to tie the game 4-4.
The Golden Knights added five runs in the fifth and held on for the victory. Clarkson improves to 18-5 on the season and is within just one victory of tying the school record for wins in a season, set in 1943. Matt Draper (Massena, NY) and Nate Markell (Massena, NY) each went 2-for-4 with two RBI while Justin Driggs (Oneonta, NY) went 2-for-3.
Freshman Aaron White (Watertown, NY) hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. It was White’s first plate appearance in 13 games. Jake Moore and Jim DeLancey each went 2-for-3 to lead the Saints (5-15). DeLancey drove in two runs with a third-inning double.
Chris Tarbox (Tupper Lake, NY) picked up his first win of the season, pitching two scoreless frames with three strikeouts. St. Lawrence starter Randy Geise took the loss, allowing nine runs over five innings while striking out two.

NOLAN HURLS ONE-HITTER, CLARKSON SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH SKIDMORE
Potsdam, NY – The Clarkson University baseball team had its’ five-game winning streak snapped as the Golden Knights and Skidmore split an Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) doubleheader, Clarkson winning the first game 6-0 and the Thoroughbreds taking the nightcap 9-7.
Junior lefthander Matt Nolan (Oswegatchie, NY) threw six no-hit innings before finally allowing a single to seventh inning leadoff hitter Ross Aresco. Nolan struck out 13 in his second shutout of the season, finishing with a one-hitter. Providing the offense for the Golden Knights in the first game was sophomore Brian Demshar (Carrabasset Valley, ME), who went 2-for-3 with his team-leading fifth home run of the season. Freshman Nate Markell (Massena, NY) went 2-for-3 with a triple while sophomore Shaun Bowman (Ogdensburg, NY) was 2-for-3 with a double.
In the second game, the Thoroughbreds scored two in the first, three in the second, and two more in the third to jump out to a 7-0 lead through the first two and a half innings. Bryan Marchinkowski (Middletown, CT) hit a two-run home run in the top half of the first inning. Clarkson came back to tie the game at 7-7 in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Skidmore scored two more runs in the top half of the sixth when Justin Kinney (South Windsor, CT) and Brandon Duber (Orange Village, OH) scored on wild pitches. Ned Watkins (Stamford, CT) went 3-for-3 with two runs scored to lead Skidmore (12-14 overall, 4-4 in the UCAA). The Golden Knights were led by freshman Matt Macaulay (Massena, NY) and sophomore Matt Draper (Massena, NY) as both went 2-for-4.

CLARKSON WINS FOURTH IN A ROW, THREE STRAIGHT OVER ST. LAWRENCE
Potsdam, NY – Willie Gould (Saratoga Springs, NY) and Brian Demshar (Carrabasset Valley, ME) hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the fifth inning off St. Lawrence starter Andy Harms as the Golden Knights went on to defeat the Saints 9-4 in a non-league game Wednesday afternoon at Clarkson’s Snell Field.
Gould’s fourth home run of the season came on the first pitch after Brooks McMurry (West Palm Beach, FL) reached base on one of his three singles in the game. Centerfielder Jake Moore toppled over the temporary fence in an effort to catch the ball, allowing Gould to race around the bases for his 23rd and 24th RBI of the season. Demshar’s fourth home run was more traditional, easily clearing the fence in left field.
Clarkson added another run in the sixth and two in the seventh to push the lead to 9-2 before the Saints rallied for two runs in the top of the ninth. Robert Stoddard (Silver Springs, NY) picked up his second win of the season in relief of starter Chris Tarbox (Tupper Lake, NY).
Five Clarkson pitchers combined to allow eight hits and six strikeouts in nine innings. Harms took the loss, allowing six runs and 10 hits in five innings. Scott Miller went 4-for-5 to lead the Saints. Nate Markell (Massena, NY) went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Tim Barcomb (Cadyville, NY) and McMurry each went 3-for-5. Demshar was 2-for-5 and Shaun Bowman (Ogdensburg, NY) went 2-for-4.
The Golden Knights improved their record to 16-4 on the season while the Saints fell to 5-14.

CLARKSON OPENS UCAA SEASON WITH SWEEP OVER ST. LAWRENCE
Canton, NY – Willie Gould (Saratoga Springs, NY) hit a game-tying grand slam in the top of the seventh to spark a nine-run rally as the Clarkson University baseball team completed a doubleheader sweep over St. Lawrence, 8-2 and 11-6, in an Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) matchup Tuesday afternoon.
Trailing 6-2 going into the seventh inning, the Golden Knights sent 14 batters to the plate and nine came around to score. Brian Demshar (Carrabasset Valley, ME) drove in the go-ahead run two batters after Gould’s third home run of the season. Matt Macaulay (Massena, NY) went 3-for-5 with two runs batted in, Gould was 2-for-5 with four RBI, and Matt Draper (Massena, NY) and Demshar each went 2-for-4. Adam Fiedler (Niskayuna, NY) picked up his first collegiate win in relief, pitching three and a third innings while allowing just one run. Scott Miller (Williamsville, NY) was 2-for-2 and Jon Dupont (Dansville, NY) was 2-for-3 for the Saints, who fell to 5-13 overall and 0-2 in the UCAA.

CLARKSON LEFTHANDER MATT NOLAN NAMED ECAC AND UCAA PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Oswegatchie, NY native and Clarkson University pitcher Matt Nolan became the second pitcher this season to be named the UCAA Pitcher of the Week and was honored with the higher honor of ECAC Pitcher of the Week for the dates April 10-16.
Nolan, a 6-2 junior lefthander, picked up the honors with a complete game victory over Ithaca College on April 15, the Golden Knights first win over the Bombers in 24 seasons. Nolan scattered 10 hits and walked one, while striking out nine, including four in the seventh inning. The victory broke a 40-game losing streak against Ithaca dating back to 1976.
Nolan is a perfect 6-0 in six starts for Clarkson this season and leads both the Golden Knights and the UCAA in strikeouts (45), wins (six), innings (40.1), and complete games (four). He also currently places a close second in ERA (1.56) in the UCAA. The Golden Knights are off to their best start since 1943 with a record of 15-4 and are within four wins of the school record for victories in a single season.

CLARKSON SPLITS WITH CAZENOVIA; MOVE TO 13-4
Cazenovia, NY – After splitting a doubleheader with Ithaca on Saturday, the Clarkson University baseball team finished 2-2 for the weekend with a 14-9 loss and 14-11 win at Cazenovia. The Golden Knights slugged three home runs in the first three innings in the opening game loss. Junior Shaun Bowman (Ogdensburg, NY) hit his first home run of the season in the top of the second inning and sophomore Matt Draper (Massena, NY) hit his second homer of the year later in that inning. Sophomore Brian Demshar (Carrabasset Valley, ME) hit his third home run of the season, his third in three straight games, the following inning.
In the second game, sophomore third baseman Tim Barcomb (Cadyville, NY) went 5-for-5 with a home run and five RBI and junior second baseman Kris Owen (PennYan, NY) was 3-for-3 with three runs scored for the Golden Knights.

CLARKSON ENDS 40-GAME LOSING SKID VERSUS ITHACA
Ithaca, NY – Junior Matt Nolan (Oswegatchie, NY) threw his fourth complete game of the season and won his fifth decision of the year, helping Clarkson University snap a 40-game losing streak to Ithaca College with a 10-4 win in the first game of a doubleheader at Ithaca’s Freeman Field. The Golden Knights (12-3) lost the second game of the doubleheader 11-8. The last time the Golden Knights defeated Ithaca was in 1976, a 4-3 decision in the second game of a doubleheader against the Bombers. In the first game, Nolan allowed 10 hits and four runs, all earned, and struck out nine, including four in the bottom of the seventh inning. Brian Demshar (Carrabassett Valley, ME) went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Tim Barcomb (Cadyville, NY) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. In the second game, the Bombers (11-8) scored four in the bottom of the first and three more in the bottom of the third inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead. The Golden Knights scored eight runs over the next three innings, but failed to hold the Bombers offense down, ending Clarkson’s 10-game winning streak. Matt Macaulay (Massena, NY) went 2-for-4 with two RBI and second baseman Kris Owen (PennYan, NY) went 2-for-4 for the second straight game.

CLARKSON RIGHT-HANDER BRAD KENNY WINS UCAA PITCHER OF THE WEEK
West Falls, NY native and Clarkson University baseball player Brad Kenny won the first Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week award for his performance during the week of March 25-April 2. A 6-1 junior right-hander, Kenny went six innings against Keuka on the opening day of the Pepsi Tournament at Clarkson University's Snell Field, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out 10 against the Warriors. Kenny held Keuka hitless for the first five innings of the game before surrendering a leadoff single in the top of the sixth inning. Kenny improved to 4-0 on the season with the victory and has a strikeout to walk ratio of 23-7. He is also second on the team with an ERA of 1.29 and has allowed only three earned runs in 21 innings so far this season. The Golden Knights are 11-2 on the season and are currently on a nine-game winning streak. The 11 wins are the second-highest total in school history.

CLARKSON BASEBALL WINS TWO IN PEPSI TOURNAMENT
Potsdam, NY - The Clarkson University baseball team increased their winning-streak to nine straight games with wins over Keuka 6-1 and Utica Tech 4-2 on the first day of the Pepsi Tournament at Clarkson’s Snell Field on Saturday afternoon. Keuka downed Utica Tech 6-1 in the third game. Clarkson's games against Utica Tech and Keuka in the second day of the tournament on Sunday were rained-out.
On Saturday, junior Brad Kenny (West Falls, NY) threw six shutout innings, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out 10, to pick up his fourth win of the season as Clarkson defeated Keuka. Sophomore first baseman Matt Draper (Massena, NY) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and freshman Nate Markell (Massena, NY) went 1-for-3 with three RBI, including a bases loaded single in the second inning. In the second game, junior Matt Nolan (Oswegatchie, NY) threw a complete game two-hitter and picked up his fourth win of the season, lowering his team-leading ERA to 0.64. Sophomore third baseman Tim Barcomb (Cadyville, NY) went 1-for-3 with a two-run double in the third inning for the Golden Knights. With the two victories, Clarkson moved their record to 11-2 on the season. The Knights play doubleheaders at Utica College and Hartwick College this coming Saturday and Sunday, April 8-9.

CLARKSON OFF TO 9-2 START; HOST PEPSI TOURNAMENT THIS WEEKEND
Thanks to a seven-game winning streak, the Clarkson University baseball team has already matched last season’s win total of nine and looks to increase the total by hosting the Pepsi Tournament this Saturday and Sunday, April 1 and April 2 at Snell Field
The Pepsi Tournament will be a two-day round-robin tournament with Clarkson, Keuka, and Utica Tech. All three teams will face one another once each day and the team with the best record at the end of the tournament will be the champion. Games will be played at 9:00 a.m., 12 noon., and 3:00 p.m. each day at Clarkson's Snell Field in Potsdam
The Golden Knights are currently ranked 6th in the New York Region by the ABCA/Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division III National Baseball Poll.
The Golden Knights have utilized timely hitting and strong pitching in their hot start. Both senior co-captain Willie Gould (Saratoga Springs, NY) and freshman Matt Macaulay (Massena, NY) are hitting .500 in the young season. Gould is slugging at a .912 clip while Macaulay is reaching base at a .625 mark. Sophomore Brian Demshar (Carrabasset Valley, ME) is also hitting .500 in eight of the Knights’ 11 games.
Clarkson’s pitching is also stronger than in years past, owning a team earned run average of 2.22 through the first 11 contests. Junior transfer Matt Nolan (Oswegatchie, NY) is a perfect 3-0 with 25 strikeouts in 21 innings. His ERA 0.86 leads the team. Junior Brad Kenny (West Falls, NY) is also 3-0 while junior Chad Roes (Lowville, NY) is 2-0 with a ERA of 1.42.

CLARKSON POSTS 6-2 RECORD DURING SPRING TRIP
The Clarkson University baseball team concluded a very successful spring trip in Cocoa, Florida by winning its final four games of an eight-game stint. On Thursday, March 16, Clarkson rallied to defeat Washington College 10-8 with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sophomore Brooks McMurry (West Palm Beach, FL) was 3-for-4 from the plate and knocked in two RBI.Junior Brad Kenny (West Falls, NY) threw six innings, allowing no earned runs, to get the win
On Friday, March 17, the Golden Knights pounded Vassar for the second time during the trip, winning 15-4, and than avenged an earlier loss to St. John Fisher by defeating the Cardinals 2-1. Against Vassar, senior Willie Gould (Saratoga Springs, NY) was 3-of-3, including a homerun and a double, along with scoring three runs and knocking in three RBI. Against St. John Fisher, junior Robert Stoddard (Silver Springs, NY) went the distance on the mound and induced a groundout with bases loaded to end the game in the top of the seventh to get the win.
On Saturday, Clarkson defeated Brockport State 5-0.Junior Matt Nolan (Oswegatchie, NY) pitched the shutout, scattering three hits over seven innings. Matt Macaulay (Massena, NY) was 4-of-4 from the plate and scored two runs. The Knights return to New York State this week and will play at Polytechnic University in a doubleheader on Saturday and at Manhattanville on Sunday.
The Knights began the spring trip on a successful note Sunday, March 12 be defeating Vassar 16-3. Sophomore Matt Draper (Massena, NY) led the way with a grand slam homerun. On Monday, the Knights lost to St. John Fisher 7-0 in the morning, but came back to defeat Western Maryland 14-9 in the afternoon. Junior Kris Owen (Penn Yan, NY) was 3-of-4 from plate with a solo homerun in the second game. Clarkson lost to Richard Stockton 7-6 on Tuesday as they walked in the tying run and then allowed the winning run to score on a passed ball all in the top of the seventh inning.
